SafeCare Colorado is an evidence-based, voluntary home visiting program that provides direct, one-on-one parenting skills training for parents and caregivers of children aged five and younger. SafeCare Colorado is focused on building parenting skills in the areas of parent-child interactions, home safety and child health.
Research has shown SafeCare effectively supports positive changes in caregivers’ parenting skills and caregiver mental health by giving vulnerable families tools and resources to keep their kids safe, healthy, and thriving. The benefits include increased parenting skills, reduced likelihood of child maltreatment reports, and lower rates of parental depression. In addition to families having a high level of satisfaction with the SafeCare program, other proven benefits include:
- Fewer re-reports to child welfare, with lower rates of foster care placement
- Fewer subsequent substantiated reports
- Significant decreases in maternal reports of depression
- Benefits and successfully serves diverse populations
